Arrive in Fredericksburg and check-in to your kid-friendly bed and breakfast.
After checking in, take the kids over to the Marktplatz Kinderhalle to find some fresh produce and homemade goodies at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market. The Market is open every Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m.
Get an introduction to our German heritage at Silver Creek Beer Garden & Grille when you stop for dinner. Be sure to try the schnitzel, though there are many other menu items on there for your picky eaters.
Start your day off with breakfast, whether it’s served in your room or by taking the family out to a local restaurant with a gift certificate.
Once everyone’s fueled up for the day, you’re off to explore the magical area of Enchanted Rock. Your family can climb the dome for amazing Hill Country views, hike other nearby trails, or join a ranger-led program to learn more about this enchanting state park.
If certain travelers get cranky around lunchtime, take them on down to Cranky Frank’s BBQ for finger-lickin’ good BBQ. You can dine in the restaurant or take your food on the go if you want to make a picnic out of it. From chicken to sausage, you won’t find a cut of meat on here you wouldn’t want to eat and we recommend making it “German style” to honor our German heritage.
After enjoying some fine Texas BBQ, continue the fun with a horseback riding adventure with Circle K Trail Rides. Let the little ones feel like cowboys and cowgirls as you take in the beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country on a family-friendly ride.
If your little ones are fascinated by wildlife, you’ll want to check out the bat emergence at Old Tunnel State Park! You can view the bats every night of the week, but Thursday through Sunday the park hosts nightly educational programs and have rangers on-site if your young ones have questions about the park or the bats.
Back in Fredericksburg, stop at West End Pizza for one of their signature pizzas, calzones, or other Italian-themed menu item.
If you’ve still got room after your delicious pie you might want to wander toward Kelani Yogurt on East Main Street for a cool and refreshing treat to end the night.
For parents that need a little pick-me-up and a hearty breakfast for the little ones, head on over to Java Ranch Espresso Bar & Café. Grab some coffee, pastries, or sit down and enjoy the breakfast tacos or sandwiches before your day of exploration.
This morning you and your family are going to visit the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site. See history come to life at the Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead where interpreters in traditional historical clothing show what life was like on the farm in 1918. Your kids will love the nature trails and wildlife enclosures with buffalo and deer and you’ll enjoy the price of admission: Free! The park also has a swimming pool if the kids are hankering for a sunny summer afternoon of splashing around the pool. The fee is $3 per person aged 13 and older and $2 per child under the age of 13.
After getting in touch with nature it’s time for the kids to step back in time at the Pioneer Museum! Let them explore buildings and artifacts from the 1800s and early 1900s and learn more about Fredericksburg’s rich history and culture.
Tonight, your family is off to dinner at Hondo’s on Main. Hondo’s boasts its great menu of Texas food and its Texas fun atmosphere and we think you and your little ones will agree once you get your hands on the menu.
After your enjoyable family meal indulge your sweet tooth at Clear River with some handmade ice cream! With more than 35 flavors to choose from, like the award-winning amaretto peach or peanut butter knuckle sandwich, you have a tough decision ahead of without adding in the choice of cone or to make your dessert an ice cream cookie sandwich!
If you’re up for it, the kids will have a ball on Saturday nights as BB’s Billiards & Bowling hosts cosmic bowling from 9 p.m. to midnight. Cosmic bowling on Saturdays is only $13 for unlimited bowling and shoe rental. Bumpers are available for children under nine should they need them.
Start your morning off with a delicious breakfast at Sunset Grill. They boast the best breakfast in town and with breakfast served all-day, we understand why! From benedicts to signature dishes, it’s impossible to leave Sunset Grill hungry.
