The town of Fredericksburg is a great place to visit year-round, but summer brings a host of special events. Head to this historic city when it is draped in red, white, and blue to celebrate the independence of our country.

Enjoy Your Independence Day Getaway in Fredericksburg

The 4th of July in Fredericksburg means shop, restaurant, and wine tasting room entrances all along the main strip are draped in the colors of the USA. Patriotism comes alive and locals and visitors line the streets for the well-loved 4th of July Parade. Bring your chairs or a blanket and claim your spot along the street. If you’d rather wine and dine while the parade ambles by, places like Vaudeville and Pontotoc Vineyards Weingarten offer up high quality food and drinks along the main thoroughfare.

The parade kicks off at 10am with a dramatic airplane flyover. It begins at the intersection of Main and Adams streets, travels east for three blocks, and then U-turns and travels west for 8 blocks, ending at Bowie Street. Following the parade, the community gathers in Marktplatz (Market Square) to continue the festivities.

Of course, no 4th of July in Fredericksburg is complete without a strong display of fireworks. Head to Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park for a picnic and a walk on the nature trails or some friendly competition on the sports fields. Stick around until dark to watch the sky light up with colors over the park with a vibrant fireworks display.

For a display of lights that will get you a little closer to nature, head to Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, one of the best areas in Texas for viewing the night sky without light pollution. Viewing the canvas of stars spread above is a unique way of celebrating the 4th of July in the country of stars and stripes.
