Things to Do in Texas Hill Country

Enjoy the Beautiful Hill Country!

  • Enchanted Rock - Enchanted Rock is a 500 foot high dome of pink granite, the second tallest in North America. Nature lovers appreciate the 7 miles of hiking trails and scenic views of the hill country. Just 15 miles north of Fredericksburg, Enchanted Rock is a must-see site for anyone who loves the great outdoors.

  • Willow City Loop Drive - This famous, scenic 13 mile drive is particularly spectacular during spring wildflowers...but is gawk-worthy year round! You'll see canyons, hills, rivers and all the beauty you expect from the Texas Hill Country.

  • Gillespie County Country Schools Driving Trail - Those who appreciate beautiful scenery mixed with local history will enjoy driving by all the little old one-room schoolhouses which were the primary schools in the area until they were consolidated into FISD in the 1950's. Open houses for various schools are held throughout the year and can be viewed here.

  • Bat Cave - The bat cave is an abandoned railroad tunnel which is home to up to 3 million bats which emerge from the tunnel each night from May to October. After watching this incredible spectacle, head next door to Alamo Springs Cafe to try the Texas Monthly's "3rd best burger in Texas!)
