Albert's Alsatian

We are extremely proud to represent Albert's Alsatian, one of the most important historic buildings in Fredericksburg. When former president George Bush stayed in Fredericksburg, he chose none other than Albert's Alsatian! This charming cottage, only a block or two from Main St., was once the Knopp family's barn, believe it or not! This cottage and the Sunday house next door were among the first historic properties restored in Fredericksburg by famed restoration architect Albert Keidel. The Sunday house bears a historical marker detailing the history of this fascinating property. These two properties are situated around a charming garden complete with ever-blooming flowers, a reflecting fountain moat and a hammock for passing a lazy afternoon. This fabulous compound has been featured in numerous publications including a large spread in "House Beautiful" . The owners of Albert's Alsatian occupy the Sunday house many weekends of the year, but Albert's Alsatian is all yours!
Passing through the French doors into your cottage, you will admire the original 1870's German stone masonry and original fachwerk construction. The high vaulted ceilings lend a light and spacious feeling. Inside you will find a full kitchen, living room, dining room, two bedrooms, and two baths. The most unique feature is probably the large wood-burning fireplace in the downstairs bathroom. Luxuriate in the large glass shower by the glow of firelight! You can also see the fireplace from the bedroom, creating a romantic and cozy atmosphere. Upstairs you will find a second bedroom with a "Rapunzel" window at the head of the bed which looks down into the living area. This fairy-tale bedroom is perfect for children! Make plans now to visit Albert's Alsatian on your next visit to the Hill Country.
